Testing - Comfort
Garment comfort is very subjective and is best assessed through wearer trials. The science of comfort testing is complex and related to many factors including weight, breathability, fit, fabric flexibility and stretch and fabric wicking. There will always be a trade off between thermal protection and comfort in garments designed to protect against heat and flame. It is important to realise that heavy, uncomfortable garments can be as much of an occupational hazard as garments with insufficient thermal protection.
Sweating Hot Plate - ISO 11092
This test measures the water vapour resistance and thermal resistance of the fabric or multilayer assembly. It measures the amount of energy which can be transferred through a given area under standard conditions.
FAST - Fabric Assurance by Simple Testing
FAST was developed by CSIRO, one of the worlds leading textile research institutions. It is a simple system for assessing the appearance, performance and handle of fabrics and can predict how a fabric will function when made into a garment. |
